Service at IAS is open to qualified individuals who are Christians of good character, without regard or reference to race, gender, national or ethnic origin, color, age, or disability. IAS is a religious educational ministry, permitted to discriminate on the basis of religion. All prospective and current missionaries must agree wholeheartedly with the school's mission statement, and they must be willing to conduct their lives in conformity with the school's statement of faith and the school's declaration and agreement to ethical and moral integrity, or Code of Professional Conduct.

“I came to Guatemala to teach at IAS because I had heard nothing but praise about the school environment. Students are polite and eager to learn, IAS teachers are close in age, and the landscape and culture of Guatemala are beautiful.”
“I was interested in living in a Spanish-speaking country, but fearful that I would not be able to teach in Spanish. IAS solves that problem and allows me to teach in English, as well as share Jesus in English with my students. I was also interested in teaching more Guatemalans and not teaching the American students in a foreign country.”
“Following the advice of a contact given to me my a church/mission organization I visited IAS with the notion of volunteering my assistance. Conditions in 1992 were a tad different, but just the same the foundation of the school is to provide a solid North American grade education to students in a Christian based setting. I have come and gone owing to the reality that we all have a certain “love/hate” relationship with the environment and culture. The call back every time, after “tasting” the variations of secular education around the world, is fundamentaly predicated on the existance of a precious freedom and autonomy provided by the wise and gracious board here at IAS who continue to maintain a safe and quality education package for the kids. As a teacher the board keeps me in mind as well. Granted, the style of care has changed over a couple of decades. (Wow, where did twenty plus years go!) Still, we are here because the task is a noble and fulfilling one that needs to be done. Good days and slightly less than good days do come along. All of us are here because it is what allows us to grow into who we will be next. An aside benefit is that by sharing who and what we are a whole batch of kids grow up in the presence of “us”, and that’s not so bad as evidenced by who and what they become.”
“I think that IAS is a good fit for me because I am someone with limited Spanish skills, but I can speak English. Also, although I am not trained to teach bible I have an interest in learning more about the bible, church history, and other religions. I think IAS is a good fit for an first year teacher (or untrained teacher) because the smaller class sizes make teaching more manageable.”
“I moved to Guatemala to teach overseas. I liked the idea of teaching all the subjects and working individually mostly, but collaboration was available when I needed it. I like the structure of the curriculum, but also the freedom the school allows us. I like that all teachers feel close with all elementary students. Mostly, I like the tight knit community and the opportunities teachers have, even early in their career.”
