Job Opportunities
At IAS we recognize that quality teachers are extremely vital in carrying out our mission and vision for providing quality, Christian education to the children of Quetzaltenango. We realize that teaching at IAS is a unique task and calling, as it requires not only the skills to teach, but also the willingness to live in a foreign country and culture. IAS works to fully support teachers, both in their work and in their living situations.
Teachers at IAS are expected to demonstrate professionalism in their classrooms by being prepared for daily lessons and fulfilling the other roles of being an educator. Teachers are also expected to have a relationship with Christ in which they demonstrate godly behavior and set a positive example for students to follow.
Although teacher certification is not necessary to be an educator at IAS, preference is given to candidates who have teaching experience or a teaching certificate. All teaching candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree. The following is a timeline for interviews and hiring at IAS:
NOVEMBER: Current IAS staff will be asked to complete an “Intent to Return” form by the end of November, indicating their plans for the following school year. This form will be distributed at the end of November, providing staff with sufficient time to make decisions for the next year.
JANUARY – MARCH: Candidates must have a teaching license in their subject area.
MARCH – APRIL: Candidates hold a teaching license.
MAY: The candidate is unlicensed, but holds at least a four-year Bachelor’s degree in their subject area.
JUNE: The candidate is unlicensed but holds a four-year Bachelor’s degree.
JULY: Special exceptions can be made for candidates who do not hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree, not to exceed 10% of full-time instructional staff.
