Director’s Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of Inter-American School (IAS). IAS is an English Language Immersion school, offering instruction to students in Prekindergarten through Twelfth Grade. IAS was established in 1961, and by God’s grace has continued to grow and serve the educational needs of students from both international and local families in the beautiful highland valley of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

We not only strive to inspire students in academic achievement from their early years of education through high school graduation, but we also seek to provide an authentic Christian environment that encourages students to demonstrate Christ-like behavior and be active disciples in their community. It is our daily goal to equip students with the proper knowledge and life skills that will develop their talents and empower them to transform the world in Christ’s name.

Our education and core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) are based on U.S. college preparatory standards. Education at IAS is not just intellectual. We work hard to encourage development in every area of a child’s life: personal, spiritual, ethical, and physical. Therefore, our learning environment also includes physical education, art, drama, computers, and library classes, as well as weekly chapel services to facilitate spiritual growth and community. Bible courses are also taught by homeroom teachers in elementary classrooms, as well as required courses for both Middle and High School students.

IAS would not be what it is today, first without God’s grace and provision, and second, without the dedicated administration, staff, students, and families committed to the mission and vision of our school.  Our campus, located outside of the city, has a very positive atmosphere, one filled with strong and friendly relationships between all involved with IAS.

We pray for continued grace and provision from the Lord, as well as the continued dedication and commitment of the entire IAS community.
